LEARN TO THROW
2.5 hour session learning about preparing clay, centering and throwing.
Service Description
So you've seen Ghost or Pottery Throwdown and you want to have a go on the wheel? Let's do it! Learn about preparing clay, setting up the wheel, centering and ultimately throwing a successful pot. WHAT TO EXPECT CLAY: Use as much clay as you need to learn! We'll choose your favourite three pots at the end to progress to firing. LEARN: These three hours will provide an introduction to throwing for beginners or practice for those with a bit of experience. We will start with clay preparation and wedging, centering and throwing. We will begin focusing on cylinders and then see where we go! FINISHING A PIECE: If you want, I will finish the piece off when it's dryer, we'll talk about glazes and I will fire it and send it to you or you can come and collect it. OR You can purchase a follow up session (£40) and come back to learn how to trim the pots you made. It's ideally done soon after your first session, so we can talk about bookings on the day. OR I can let you know when the pot has had it's first firing and is ready to be glazed. You can book a glazing session to come and decorate your piece with the glazes I have in the studio. REFRESHMENTS: Tea, snacks, and chats. It'll just be yourself and me in the studio (if you like dogs then maybe my greyhound Ernie will visit for pats too) with tea, snacks and no pressure at all. ACCESSIBILITY: The studio has a couple of shallow steps to get into the space and then is flat ground. I'm sorrt if steps are an issue we don't yet have a ramp solution in place. If you have any injuries or physical needs that affect throwing, please let me know in advance so I can work with you to make sure your time is safe and comfortable.
